As the visionary behind Thunders Tabernacle Ministry of Christ, Derrick has devoted decades to leading others to Christ and offering hope to the brokenhearted.

Early Life and Calling

Derrick Ward was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and later moved to Columbus, Ohio. Overcoming various life challenges, Derrick experienced a transformative moment in 1980 when he became born again. In 1984, during a time of prayer, Derrick received a divine calling as God spoke to his heart, saying, “Preach My Word.” This pivotal moment set him on a journey of spiritual growth, wisdom, and maturity.

Early Ministry Development

Derrick began his ministry journey under the mentorship of Pastor Dorothy Jones from 1982 to 1989, serving faithfully as a Sunday School teacher. In 1987, he obtained his license to minister and started a prison ministry, focusing on bringing hope and transformation to incarcerated individuals. He also launched a grassroots outreach initiative, encouraging people to change their lives and experience the power of being born again.

Spiritual Growth & Marriage

In 2001, Derrick moved to Columbus, Ohio, and in 2006, he married Minister Cynthia Ward. United by their shared faith and calling, the couple embarked on a mission to serve the Lord and expand His kingdom. In 1984, God had given Derrick a powerful vision of preaching His Word with thunder, which later inspired the foundation of Thunders Tabernacle Ministry of Christ.

Further Preparation and Service

Under the mentorship of Bishop James Redd and the Philadelphia Deliverance Church of Christ, Derrick and Cynthia served faithfully for 10 years, deepening their spiritual education and ministry experience. Together, they ministered in nursing homes, prisons, and on the streets, helping people with broken lives find hope and restoration.

Today’s Mission

With the foundation of Thunders Tabernacle Ministry of Christ and Compassions International Ministry of Jesus Christ, Derrick and Cynthia Ward continue their mission to lead others to Christ, restore hope to the hopeless, and expand their reach wherever the Lord directs them.
